Angela OConnor

Angela O’Connor

Angela is the founder and CEO of the HR Lounge. Her experience in HR spans over 30 years with roles at Chief People Officer at the NPIA, HR Director at the CPS and Head of HR at three London based local authorities. Angela has received many awards for her work in the HR field including three HR Director of the year awards. She was also the first civil service president of the PPMA (Public Sector People Managers’ Association) in the organisation’s history. She is also the president of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) Police Forum.

Angela launched the HR Lounge in 2011 - a boutique consultancy that offers a unique blend of HR services to a range of private and public sector organisations. A passionate problem solver, Angela’s goals are to help organisations achieve the very best through strategic HR advice, and robust HR policies. Her company employs the very best and experienced HR experts who are at the top of their profession. Angela's deep sector knowledge spans across the whole HR spectrum and she has practical experience in often complex, difficult or confidential areas. Her real passion lies in making HR simple and stress-free for clients and helping to create flourishing work environments where people succeed. Angela has recently been appointed President of the HR society

George is Managing Consultant of Shared Solutions Consulting. He has extensive consultancy experience in the UK and overseas, including Eastern Europe, Africa, the Near and Middle East. A joint author of two books on organisational change who often speaks at conferences and workshops to senior managers and postgraduate students. He has been an expert witness to the House of Commons Health Select Committee and advisor to the King's Fund in workforce planning and development.

Andrew Mayo

Professor Andrew Mayo has nearly 30 years experience in industry. For the last decade he has been a Fellow and Programme Director at the Centre for Management Development at London Business School, Associate Professor of Human Capital Management at Middlesex University Business School, and Director of the highly regarded consultancy company, Mayo Learning International. He holds degrees in Chemical Engineering, Operations Research and Management, and a Diploma in Finance and Accounting, and is a frequent conference speaker and author. His specialities are in HR Strategy, Workforce Planning and Human Capital Measurement.

Robin Field-Smith

Robin Field-Smith

Director

Robin Field-Smith is now a workforce and diversity consultant and an associate academic with a few universities. He chairs the Learning from Experience Trust, which brought APEL to UK 25 years ago.
He has well over 30 years experience working as a senior director and HR professional in large, complex, regulated organisations like the Army and the police. His specialist areas are in developing and improving workforce capability, productivity and diversity, through organisational and cultural change. He has particular expertise in education and training, leadership development, personnel management, and EDHR. He has an MA in Educational Management, is a Companion of CMI, a Chartered Fellow of CIPD, and holds a Certificate of Company Direction from IoD.

 

Peter Reilly

Director HR Research & Consultancy, Institute for Employment Studies

 

Peter Reilly the Director of Research and Consultancy at the Institute for Employment Studies. He joined IES in 1995 after a 16 year career with Shell where he held various HR posts in the UK and abroad including both generalist jobs (eg as Personnel Manager for Shell UK’s Information and Computing division) and specialist roles (eg in compensation and benefits, recruitment and career development, and industrial relations). At the Institute he leads its work on the HR function and significantly contributes to the Reward and Performance Management theme. He has given consultancy support to organisations on issues in this area and is a regular speaker and commentator.
He is graduate in history and politics from Cambridge.

 

Wyn Jones

Executive Member, Workforce Project Manager, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, MBA (Health Executive), BSc

 

 


Wyn has a wealth of experience in public sector workforce planning. He has had many roles, mainly within the NHS, over 23 years. He is project manager for a significant workforce change programme in one of the largest NHS Trusts. He worked in the private sector as a management consultant in workforce planning and Organisational Development. He has a Master degree in performance management and qualifications in “Managing Successful Programmes” and PRINCE2. Wyn led on the development of the strategic partnership with the local Learning and Skills Council and secured £3m investment and was short-listed for an Health Service Journal award.

Angela has been a CIPD Adviser, since 1990 and current covers the areas of Engagement and Organsiation Development. She has been responsible for a number of major projects investigating total quality, organisational culture, job evaluation, performance management, lean organisations, HR strategy the relationship between HR and business performance and most recently human capital management and workforce planning.
She also contributes to CIPD information and guidance in the employee resourcing area, which includes recruitment and selection, psychometric testing, redundancy, counselling, management systems, organisational development and change management. Angela has contributed to several books including two on performance management. In 2008 she produced a book jointly authored with Michael Armstrong, titled Human Capital Management - achieving added value through people. This book offers a starting point for practitioners to evaluate the contribution of people to their business and develop ways of communicating human capital information both internally and externally. She is currently working on the CIPD’s major investigation into sustainable organisation performance and developing further work on assessment and evaluation.
As well as her contribution to CIPD publications, Angela also contributes to a number of teaching programmes and has written articles for both the national and personnel presses. She holds a Masters degree in occupational and organisational psychology and is a chartered member of the CIPD.
