Should it be HR or Human Capital Strategy?

Speaker - Paul Kearns, Director, PWL
and author
‘HR Strategy - Creating Business Strategy from Human Capital’

10.00 for 10.30 until 12.30 on 17th November 2009

Paul Kearns will be discussing some of the themes in the latest edition of his 2003 book ‘HR Strategy’, to be released in September 2009.  This time around he puts the responsibility for HR strategy firmly in the lap of the CEO, who should be developing an HR-business strategy without any discernible join.
He will also explore a range of related questions that have been rapidly rising up the HR agenda.  Questions for which any HR director will need to have convincing answers ready –

• Do conventional HR theories and practices of engagement, talent and performance management really deliver, especially in a downturn?
• How can the organisation move up to higher levels of organisational maturity – in terms of both capability and learning?
• How much real value, in £’s, can HR-business strategy add?
• How can we incorporate the latest thinking on human systems to re-shape the organisation to best advantage?
• How does HR and Human Capital Management fit with the growing movement towards Evidence-Based Management?

Paul Kearns has over 30 years experience covering roles in industrial relations, learning and strategic HR.  In 1991 he left an executive HR position in the automotive industry to found the PWL consultancy offering measured, strategic business solutions to the most difficult people issues.  He has worked in all sectors, commercial, public and third sector, in over 20 countries around the world including China, Australia and the Middle East and is a very popular keynote conference speaker.  He has written widely on the subjects of HR strategy, human capital valuation, HR measurement, learning evaluation and ROI and has earned a reputation as a very thought-provoking, leading edge thinker on how organisations can build competitive strategies from human capital.  He also designs and runs executive HR strategy, MBA programmes and Masterclasses.
